As Cornwall’s flat roofing experts we have the experience and expertise to install, repair and maintain any type of flat roof.

We’re often asked which type of flat roofing is the best, but there is no definitive answer to this. The type of flat roofing system you opt for on your property is largely down to personal preference, and your budget.

You can rely on us to advise the best type of flat roof to suit your particular purposes – whether it be a roof for an extension, outbuilding or a modern flat-roofed home, but whichever type of flat roofing you go for you can rest assured we’ll install it to a high standard to ensure maximum longevity, with appropriate warranties and guarantees.

Here’s a guide to the different types of flat roofing we install in Cornwall:

Bitumen Felt Flat Roofing

A few layers of felt stuck down and treated with bitumen is the traditional method of covering a flat roof, and it still works well today with the materials and methods used now technologically superior to those used back in the early days when flat roofs first became popular in the UK after the Second World War.

Bitumen Felt covered flat roofs are strong, so well-suited if the roof is to serve as a balcony or terrace – robust enough to be covered with tiles or gravel and withstand foot traffic.

Consisting of waterproof bitumen membranes torched on over a layer of insulation on the roof deck, these flat roofs create a cost-effective warm roof that can last for up to 15 years if well maintained.

Liquid Waterproof Flat Roofing System

If you want a flat roof covering that can be applied quickly in any weather, with superior waterproofing properties, then we recommend the advanced liquid waterproofing system Hydrostop AH-25.

This one-component liquid comes ready to use and is applied cold over a polyester membrane, and cures quickly leaving a smooth, seamless, closely bonded, strong surface. It’s available in custom colours.

This system is great for any size flat roof, from small home extensions to large commercial buildings and can be applied over any underlying material, making it ideal for flat roof refurbishments.

Our liquid waterproofing flat roof system comes with a 25 year guarantee so longevity is assured.

Fibreglass GRP Flat Roofing

Fibreglass – or glass reinforced plastic – has been around for decades, familiar to us all because of its durable and waterproofing properties when used for products like boats and surfboards. That is what makes it the ideal material for covering flat roofs.

Mouldable and quick to apply GRP dries to a hard, very attractive, non-slip seamless finish, it’s a great solution for roofing new builds and balconies – especially green roofs.

The only drawback is that it can’t be applied in wet weather, but in sunny, warm Cornwall that doesn’t present too many problems.

Here at Cornwall Flat Roofing our GRP roofing solution of choice is CrysticROOF by Scott Bader – a high performance British flat roofing system suitable for all kinds of roof on domestic and commercial buildings.

We offer a 25-year guarantee on our GRP flat roofing, but this material is likely to last a lifetime.

Res-tec flexitec Flat Roofing System

Similar to a fibreglass flat roof system, this solution consists of a tough resin coating reinforced with fibreglass matting which is impact and crack resistant.

The difference from ordinary GRP roofing is that Res-Tec Flexitec has a unique flexible technology which makes it easy to coat any type of surface without having to strip off the existing covering down to the roof deck. The Res-Tec Flexitec coating conforms to any size or shape of roof, no matter how complex

Cornwall Flat Roofing are proud to be approved contractors for this flat roofing solution, which comes with a 20 year guarantee.
